Course Information

The SMSTS Site Management 2 Day Refresher training is a crucial course for site managers to update their health and safety knowledge. It is designed for safety-critical industries and is a recognised award from CITB, valid for 5 years. This course allows managers to refresh their skills and effectively manage potential hazards in the workplace.

Who Should Attend?

Construction site managers and senior site supervisors or anyone who currently holds a valid and in date Site Management Safety Training Scheme SMSTS certificate. The certificate has to be renewed every five years by attending this SMSTS Refresher course. Please note that expired certs and grace periods for expired certificate renewals are no longer able to join this course.

Joining Instructions

There are NO Car parking facilities at the venue. However, there is ample parking available in Chertsey all within walking distance of the John Ryder Training Centre. Please see the map for nearby car parking that is not subject to permit or charges. Lunch is not provided - Trainees must either bring their own food, or there are a number of good cafes, bakeries or shops a short distance from the Centre. Cyclist and motorcyclists, can leave their bicycles or motorbikes in the car park of the Centre, which is gated for security, although the bicycles and motorbikes must be locked and will be the sole responsibility of the cyclist/motorcyclist. CHSG will hold no responsibility for the bicycles or motorbikes held on its premises. On arrival at the Centre: Courses will start at 9.00am, unless specifically stated otherwise. We recommend trainees aim to arrive by 8.30am to ensure that courses can start promptly at 9.00am. Please note that the TWC, TWC-R and TWS courses commence at 8.30am promptly and will finish at approx.. 5pm. Registration will be from 8.15am. Trainees can use the buzzer at the gates to gain access into the Centre. Once all Trainees have arrived on site the gates will remain locked until the end of the course for security reasons, but staff can open them at any time upon request. Once in the building the Trainee will be registered at reception by the Centre staff. The requirements and layout of the Centre will be discussed and any questions answered. Refreshment areas will be shown to the Trainee and they will be advised which training room they will be in for the day. During the course: The Trainers will go through all of the procedures and systems required to be understood during the course day. Trainees are encouraged to ask questions, request clarifications, or raise any concerns, so that everybody is clear about how to safely attend the training course. If the Trainees wish to liaise with the Centre staff, please can they knock on the office door. On leaving the Centre: When Trainees have completed their day, Centre staff will open the main gates to allow Trainees to exit the car park, or the Trainees can exit through the pedestrian gate by pressing the button in the gray box next to the gate.

Health and safety law, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act and Construction Design and Management Regulations. Policies, risk assessments, and method statements. Induction, training, communication, and leadership for effective worker engagement. Inspection, audit, and statutory forms, notices, and registers. Accident prevention, control, reporting, and investigation.

Management of health and welfare facilities, including stress and mental health at work, drugs and alcohol, and control of substances hazardous to health. Specific topics such as lead, asbestos, dust and fumes, noise, vibration, and manual handling.

Site organisation, including fire prevention and control, dangerous substances, electrical safety, temporary works, and plant and work equipment. Mobile plant and vehicles, lifting operations and equipment, and safety for mobile workforce and drivers.

Work at Height Regulations, covering safe working at height, common access equipment, scaffolding, fall arrest and suspension equipment, excavations, underground and overhead services, and confined spaces. Course duration 2 days..

Welcome to the Chertsey Training Centre! Our John Ryder Training Centre is conveniently located just outside the town centre on St Anns Road. With easy access from the M25 and M3, getting here by road is a breeze. For those traveling by train, the nearest station is Chertseys main train station, just a 13 minute walk or 5 minute cycle to the Centre. The Chertsey line offers a great connection to London Waterloo, with the option to change at Weybridge or Virginia Water. Our Centre is fully accessible for those with disabilities and is located on the ground floor. If youre coming from the M25, simply head southeast towards Chertsey/Woking on the A320. Take a slight left onto St Peters Way/A320, then another slight left onto Chertsey Rd/A317. Continue straight onto Clay Corner/B387 and turn left onto Abbey Rd. From there, take a slight left onto London St/B375 and go through one roundabout. Turn left onto St Anns Rd/B375, then left onto Twynersh Ave. Youll find the training centre on your left. Accreditation

Successful candidates of the SMSTS Site Management 2 Day Refresher training course will receive a ConstructionSkills Site Safety Plus certificate. This certificate is highly recognized in the construction industry and is a requirement for many job positions.

The SMSTS certificate is valid for five years, after which it must be renewed by attending the SMSTS Refresher course. The course includes a compulsory examination paper consisting of 25 questions selected by the CITB. A pass is achieved by scoring over 80 on the exam.
