Course Information
This is a fast-paced course, based upon the assumption that delegates will have retained some knowledge from having already successfully completed the full 5 day SMSTS course at some time within the previous 5 years. The course consists of 2 full days of tuition, some of which will be tutor led, but a great deal of which will be learner centred (ie the delegates will learn by carrying out a variety of workshops with tutor assistance). Review of changes to the law within the last 5 years. What’s to Come?
Overview of current accident levels within the construction industry, their causes, and HSE’s strategy for dealing with. This module will introduce and discuss recent prosecutions.
Risk Assessment review and refresher.
Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013
The CDM regulations 2015
The Work at Height Regulations 2005.
The Provision and use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
Day 2
Day 2 concentrates on topics relating to the health hazards to which construction workers are routinely exposed, in particular:
Asbestos (The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012).
Substances hazardous to health (The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
Noise (The Noise at Work Regulations 2005).
Fire prevention and precautions.
Stress (includes the Working Time Directive).
The provision and use of Persona.
